About the Artist
Gudmundur was born in Iceland in 1930 and as a young man he took on any different job both on land and at sea .
He finished his medical education at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik in 1958 and after that he practiced surgery in Sweden .After returning to Iceland in 1967 he worked as a specialist and chief surgeon at the University hospital in Reykjavik till his retirement in 2000 .
From young age he has been very interested in drawing and painting and he is mostly selfeducated as an artist but he got his first instructions on painting from an english soldier in 1943 and much later from the icelandic artists Sverrir Haraldsson and Einar Hakonarson .
He has held two private exhibitions ,both of them in Asgrimssalur in Reykjavik .
